(More customer reviews)The primary motivation for my purchasing this generator was spring thaw of our 180 or so inches of snow this season. Specifically, the fact that all of the snow melt seemed to making its way to my three sump pumps (particularly one, which was running about every 5 minutes). It seemed clear that if I lost power, I'd be hip deep in (very cold) water pretty quick. I also wanted something I could us in better weather to take out into my woods along with a compressor, air tools and a miter saw to have some fun with.
The generator was easy to put together (basically, put the wheels and handles on, hook up the battery, and fill it with oil). Filling the oil was a slight pain, due to the angle of the filler hole, so make sure you have a funnel with a long neck on it. Also, you'll need to provide your own oil.
Once that was done, the generator fired right up the first time with the electric start. It has a pull starter, too, but I've yet to try it.
Fortunately we haven't lost power yet, but it's nice to know this is ready to go if we do (even better when I rewire the transfer switch that I inherited with the house and the tangled mess inside my main panel - which I'll mess with when things dry out a bit around here). It runs my compressor with no problem, so I can use my air tools w/o dragging around a few hundred feet of extension cord and/or air hose.
The generator is reasonably quiet - about what you'd expect for a 13HP gas engine. All-in-all, assuming it lasts, it's a very nice piece of equipment for the price ($550 when I got it), and the electric start is a nice feature.
